Sokoto State Clarifies N1.2 Billion Borehole Expenditure

Sokoto, Nigeria – The Sokoto State Government has issued a clarification regarding the recent expenditure of N1.2 billion on drilling new solar-powered boreholes. The government has refuted claims made on social media that the funds were used to repair existing boreholes.
Earlier, a video surfaced showing Governor Ahmad Aliyu stating that his administration had spent N1.2 billion on renovating boreholes in the Wurno Local Government Area. This statement sparked criticism and controversy among residents and online commentators.
However, the state government has now clarified that the funds were allocated for a new project aimed at addressing the water scarcity issue in the region. According to a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, the project involved drilling new solar-powered boreholes in five local government areas: Munki, Marnona, Dinawa, Lugu, and Wurno. Additionally, a 40-kilometer pipeline was constructed to ensure the efficient distribution of potable water.
The project is a collaborative effort between the Sokoto State Government and the World Bank under the ACReSAL program. The initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to provide access to clean drinking water to communities in the state.
The clarification from the state government aims to set the record straight and address the misinformation circulating on social media regarding the N1.2 billion expenditure.
