Kano, Nigeria – A staff member of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Pyramid FM, Kano, Mukhtar Dahiru, has been re-arrested and remanded in a correctional center for allegedly breaching his bail conditions.

Dahiru, who is facing charges of criminal conspiracy, defamation of character, and intentional insults, was initially granted bail last week by a magistrate court. However, he was rearrested and remanded after failing to meet one of the bail conditions.

According to the complainant, Anas Dala, Dahiru used his social media handle to defame his character by accusing him of various offenses, including adultery, impregnating a lady, and disrespecting Vice President Kashim Shettima. Dala denied these allegations and insisted that he brought the case to court to protect his reputation.

Dahiru’s counsel, Barr. Yusuf Isah, confirmed the re-arrest and explained that the defendant had difficulty meeting one of the bail conditions related to the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ). The counsel said that an application to replace the NUJ with the Radio, Television, Theater, and Art Workers Union (RATTAWU) on the bail condition had been submitted but was yet to be certified.

The Radio, Television, Theater, and Art Workers Union (RATTAWU) in Kano, represented by its chairman, Salisu Ali Tofa, expressed concern over the re-arrest and the additional conditions imposed by the court. Tofa stated that Dahiru was a member of RATTAWU and not the NUJ, and that the union was working to resolve the issue and secure Dahiru’s release.

The case is ongoing, and the court has adjourned for further hearing.
