Abuja, Nigeria – September 13, 2024 – In a significant step towards enhancing security in bandit-prone areas, the Katsina State Government has announced plans to recruit a second batch of its Community Watch Corps. The decision, made during a recent council meeting chaired by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, comes on the heels of the successful deployment of the first batch, which has led to a notable decline in insecurity across eight local governments.

Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, revealed that the new recruits will be deployed across ten local governments, including Dutsinma, Kurfi, Charanchi, and Funtua. This expansion of the Community Watch Corps is expected to further strengthen the state’s efforts to combat banditry and restore peace to affected communities.

The first batch of the Community Watch Corps has already demonstrated its effectiveness in reducing crime rates by over 30%. The initiative has empowered local residents to play an active role in safeguarding their communities and has fostered a stronger sense of security and cooperation among citizens.

As the Katsina State Government continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of its citizens, the recruitment of a second batch of the Community Watch Corps represents a crucial step in addressing the challenges posed by banditry and ensuring a more peaceful and secure future for the state.
