The Kano State Government has declared Tuesday, September 23, as a public holiday to mark the celebration of Maulud Nabiy, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Abba Danguguwa, the holiday is intended to commemorate the Prophet’s birth, observed annually by Muslims around the world.

Maulud Nabiy is celebrated on the 12th of Rabi’ul Auwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar. In Kano, this day is marked by grand festivities, including prayers, processions, and community gatherings to honor the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad. The event is deeply rooted in Kano’s cultural and religious history, drawing thousands of residents to participate in the celebrations.

The Kano State Government urged residents to use the occasion to reflect on the Prophet’s message of peace, unity, and compassion while fostering harmony within the community. This declaration aligns with Nigeria’s tradition of recognizing significant religious events with public holidays.

The Maulud Nabiy celebrations in Kano, one of the largest in the country, will also feature scholars delivering sermons on the Prophet’s exemplary character and his impact on Islamic teachings.
