In a decisive win for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Monday Okpebholo has emerged victorious in the Edo State governorship election, held on Saturday, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.
President Bola Tinubu extended his warm congratulations to Senator Okpebholo and praised the APC’s national and Edo State leaders, along with party governors, for their dedication and hard work in securing the victory. He highlighted that this win reflects the people’s growing trust in the APC’s progressive ideals, economic reforms, and commitment to uplifting the lives of Nigerians.
President Tinubu urged Senator Okpebholo to approach his new role with humility, urging him to embrace political rivals and foster unity in Edo State for its continued growth and prosperity. He emphasized that the victory should be seen as a call to service rather than an opportunity for self-congratulation.
Furthermore, President Tinubu commended other candidates who participated in the election, acknowledging their role in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process. He emphasized that the peaceful conduct of the election showcased Nigeria as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
Addressing potential grievances, the President encouraged those dissatisfied with the election results to pursue legal avenues, reaffirming the importance of upholding democratic principles.
President Tinubu also applauded the people of Edo State for their orderly and peaceful participation in the electoral process, describing it as a testament to Nigeria’s maturing democracy, now 25 years strong. He praised INEC and security agencies for ensuring a smooth and largely hitch-free election, reiterating the commission’s commitment to upholding free and fair elections in the country.
