Maiduguri, Nigeria – Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has established a committee to oversee the distribution of relief packages to victims of the devastating flood that struck Maiduguri on September 10. The flood caused significant damage to homes, infrastructure, and agricultural lands, displacing thousands of families.

The 35-member committee, inaugurated on Monday at the government house, is tasked with ensuring that relief resources are distributed fairly and transparently. Governor Zulum emphasized the importance of accountability and integrity in the committee’s operations, stating that “every naira allocated for relief must be used effectively and reaches those who are suffering.”

To maintain transparency, the governor directed that all allowances for committee members be paid by the state government, not from the relief fund. Additionally, he ordered that 100% of donations be disbursed to flood victims, with the state government taking responsibility for the rehabilitation of public facilities and providing financial support to those affected.

N4.4 Billion Donated

Governor Zulum also announced that N4.4 billion in donations has been credited to the state’s relief account. This account was established to support ongoing efforts to alleviate the hardships faced by flood victims. While the state has received pledges totaling N13.195 billion, the actual amount received as of Sunday was N4.441 billion. The governor assured that all allocations to the relief account would be made public.
