Several Bandits Injured; Residents Urged to Stay Vigilant
Kaduna State has been relieved of a notorious criminal presence as Kachalla Tukur Sharme, a notorious bandit commander, was killed in a violent fratricidal clash over the weekend. This development comes after an extensive intelligence operation by security agencies, marking a significant victory in the ongoing fight against banditry in the region.
Bandit Commander Killed in Gun Duel
Sharme, alongside two other members from a rival bandit group, was killed in a fierce shootout that took place around an area known as ‘Hambakko’ in the Rijana and Kaso Forests. This forest region spans parts of Kachia, Chikun, and Kajuru Local Government Areas. The clash enabled several kidnapped citizens to escape captivity, further highlighting the impact of this violent encounter.
According to intelligence sources, five other bandits sustained severe injuries and are reportedly seeking medical assistance within the area. Residents have been strongly advised to avoid aiding any suspicious individuals and to immediately contact security forces if they encounter anyone with gunshot wounds.
Kachalla Sharme’s Reign of Terror Comes to an End
Kachalla Tukur Sharme was infamous for his involvement in numerous criminal activities, including kidnapping, cattle rustling, and ruthless killings across several communities in Kaduna, Katsina, and Niger states. His gang was largely responsible for terrorizing areas such as Millennium City, Maraban Rido, Kujama, Kajuru, and Maro, as well as surrounding villages in the Kateri region.
One of the most heinous acts associated with Sharme was the abduction of 121 students from Bethel Baptist High School, Kujama, Kaduna State, on July 5th, 2021. Despite numerous attempts by security forces to capture him, Sharme had managed to escape until he was finally brought down by members of a rival gang.
Security Forces Suffer Losses
During operations against Sharme’s gang, two members of the security forces tragically lost their lives. Their sacrifice serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced in the fight against banditry and terrorism in the region.
