Abuja, Nigeria – October 17, 2024 – A devastating tanker explosion in Majia, Taura Local Government Area, Jigawa State, has left the community reeling from the loss of lives and injuries. In response to this tragic event, the National Civil Society Coalition on Security, Peace, and Conflict Resolution (CSPSCR) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a national day of mourning.

The explosion, which occurred on Tuesday 16th October,2024 resulted in the lost of so many lives and numerous injuries. The CSPSCR expressed its deepest condolences to the affected families and the entire Jigawa State community. They commended Governor Malam Umar Namadi for his swift response and efforts to provide aid to the victims.

In light of the severity of the tragedy, the coalition urged the federal government to offer substantial support to the victims’ families and the affected community. They also emphasized the need for a nationwide public awareness campaign to prevent similar incidents in the future.

“This is a time for unity and reflection,” said Muhammad Musbahu Basirka, National President of the CSPSCR. “We urge all Nigerians to join us in mourning the loss of lives and providing support to those affected.

“As the nation grapples with this tragic event, the CSPSCR’s call for a national day of mourning serves as a reminder of the collective grief and the need for solidarity in the face of adversity.
