In a significant move, President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) have abolished two ministries and merged another, reshaping the government’s structure.

The Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development have been scrapped, with their functions being absorbed by other departments. The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and other regional development commissions will now fall under the purview of a newly created Ministry of Regional Development. Meanwhile, the National Sports Commission will take over the responsibilities of the Ministry of Sports.

In another major change, the Ministry of Tourism has been merged with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, creating a combined department to oversee both sectors.

The decisions were announced today at the FEC meeting in Abuja and are expected to have far-reaching implications for the Nigerian government and its policies.
