Nigerian House of Representatives Orders Probe into Frequent Power Outages
October 24th, 2024

The House of Representatives of Nigeria has mandated its committee on power to investigate the recurrent power outages across the country and present a comprehensive report within three weeks.
Nigeria has been grappling with severe electricity shortages, with power cuts occurring at least three times a week in most parts of the country, and up to four times in some regions.
The resolution was triggered by an urgent motion moved by Hon. Mansur Manu Soro (PDP, Bauchi) who expressed deep concern over the frequent collapses of the national grid, plunging the entire nation into darkness and exacerbating the economic challenges faced by Nigerians.
Soro emphasized the critical role of a stable power supply in driving economic growth and development. He further revealed that the national grid had collapsed eight times in 2024 alone.
