Breaking News: President Tinubu Orders Military Crackdown on Zamfara Bandits

Zamfara, Nigeria (October 24, 2024) – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a stern directive to the Nigerian military to eliminate insecurity in Zamfara State and the broader North-West region. The order was conveyed by the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, during a visit to assess the progress of Operation Fansan Yamma North West.Minister Abubakar emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to ending banditry and terrorism in the region. He highlighted the significant deployment of troops and the notable progress made thus far.
“President Tinubu is deeply concerned about the security situation in the North-West, particularly in Zamfara, and has instructed the troops to eradicate insecurity in the region,” the Minister stated. Â
During his visit, the Minister commended the troops’ readiness and urged them to intensify their efforts against notorious bandit leaders. He expressed optimism about the operation’s success and encouraged community cooperation and prayers for the troops.
“We will finish them,” the Minister declared, signaling the government’s determination to eradicate the threat posed by bandits.
The Minister’s visit included a tour of Combat 2, 17 Brigade, and the Forward Operation Base of Operation Fansan Yamma. He praised the troops for their relentless efforts in securing the Tsafe-Shema-Gusua road, acknowledging recent successes and urging them to maintain the momentum.
“Your dedication has yielded positive results, particularly in the last 48 hours with no reported attacks on this critical route,” the Minister said. “We encourage you to intensify your efforts, ensuring the road remains safe and free for motorists.
“The Minister assured the troops of the President’s commitment to their welfare and equipment.
In a meeting with Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, the Minister briefed him on the purpose of his visit and the government’s resolve to address the security challenges facing the state.
Governor Lawal acknowledged the state’s security challenges and expressed confidence in the military’s ability to defeat the bandits. “We will take the fight to them and finish them,” he declared.
The Nigerian military’s intensified efforts in Zamfara State are expected to bring relief to the beleaguered population and restore peace to the region.
