A cross-border market organization between Nigeria’s Maigatari and Niger’s Dungass has shed light on trade dynamics across the border. Approximately there’s an over-trading population of 7,000—5,000 in Maigatari Market and 2,000 in Dungass Market—highlighting the scale of inter-boundary commerce in the region.

At a pivotal meeting held in the palace of Emir of Dungass at Maigatari border, key leaders from both Nigeria and Niger, including Hon. Usman Muhammad Na’Allah, Chairman of Maigatari Local Government, Representatives from Immigration, Police, Civil Defence, and other key security agencies, District head of Maigatari Alh. Sani Alhassan, and the Emir of Dungass, came together to discuss ways to strengthen economic cooperation and ensure peace along the shared boundary. The Emir of Dungass underscored the deep-rooted bond between the two communities, pledging full cooperation with Maigatari’s leadership for sustained collaboration.
