The Arewa Youths Assembly for Good Leadership (AYAGL) has expressed its unwavering support for Defence Minister Badaru Abubakar, dismissing recent calls for his removal as counterproductive.
In a statement released by AYAGL President Amb. Abdul Dan Bature, the group emphasized the importance of maintaining northern representation in key ministerial positions, particularly in the Defence Ministry, given the region’s unique security challenges.
“Removing Minister Badaru could potentially lead to a replacement from outside the north, which could hinder the effective addressing of our region’s security concerns,” Bature stated.
The youth group commended the Defence Minister’s efforts in enhancing security operations, procuring modern military equipment, and fostering regional cooperation to combat cross-border threats. They highlighted the significant strides made under Badaru’s leadership in curbing insurgency and banditry in the northwestern region.
While acknowledging the ongoing security challenges, particularly the activities of lakurawa and kidnappers, AYAGL urged President Bola Tinubu and Minister Badaru to intensify efforts to restore peace and stability to the region.
Bature concluded by appealing to northerners to serve as positive ambassadors for their region and actively contribute to its development.
