A recent statement by the Kano Civil Society Forum’s (KCSF) Board of Trustees (BoT) claims to have suspended Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya, Executive Director of Citizens for Development and Education (CDE), from the forum’s membership and activities for a year. However, a closer examination of the situation reveals a misinterpretation and misuse of power by the BoT.

According to the KCSF constitution, the BoT has no right to suspend a registered member without the recommendation of the Executive Council, following a thorough investigation of any alleged offense. It appears that the BoT has overstepped its boundaries and acted unilaterally in suspending Ambassador Waiya.

The suspension is allegedly a result of Ambassador Waiya’s objection to a “kangaroo election” organized by the BoT to elect the new leadership of KCSF. The election, which was reportedly marred by a lack of accountability, transparency, and inclusiveness, saw less than 50 organizations participate out of 200 registered members.

Ambassador Waiya’s commitment to justice and fairness is evident in his determination to challenge the suspension in a court of law. His priorities remain focused on Kano’s development, the North, and Nigeria, rather than personal reputation.

It is essential for the KCSF BoT to reconsider its actions and respect the constitutional provisions that govern the organization. The suspension of Ambassador Waiya is a clear indication of the BoT’s desperation to maintain its grip on power, despite the outcry from the majority of members who were disenfranchised during the electoral process.

As the situation unfolds, it is crucial for all stakeholders to remain calm and disregard any misleading propaganda or negative insinuations against Ambassador Waiya. The pursuit of justice and fairness must prevail, and the KCSF BoT must be held accountable for its actions.
