In a dramatic turn of events, the Department of State Services (DSS) has released Zubair A. Zubair, a prominent democratic activist, who was arrested yesterday at Federal University Dutse and transferred to Abuja.

According to the executive director of Organisation for Community Civic Engagement (OCCEN), Zubair’s release was confirmed earlier today. However, the DSS has retained his phone, sparking concerns about the ongoing crackdown on dissenting voices in the country.

Zubair is expected to arrive in Kano later today, where his family and fellow activists are eagerly awaiting his return. The activist’s detention had sparked widespread outrage, with many condemning the DSS’s actions as a blatant attempt to silence critics of the government.

This development comes amidst growing concerns about the erosion of democratic freedoms and the increasing use of state security agencies to intimidate and harass activists and journalists.
