The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has cautioned the Federal Government against using court orders to compel lecturers to return to school. This warning comes as concerns mount about potential disruptions to the 2025 academic calendar due to unresolved issues between ASUU and the government.

ASUU has expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of key issues, including:

Delayed Implementation of Agreements: Failure to enforce agreements, including the renegotiated agreement led by Nimi Briggs.

Insufficient Funding for Public Universities: Inadequate infrastructure and resources due to lack of funding.

Controversial Pay Structures: Pay structures that have lowered academic staff morale nationwide.

√IPPIS and UTAS Issues: Problems surrounding the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS).

ASUU emphasized that its patience should not be misinterpreted as weakness, warning that prolonged confrontation would be unavoidable in 2025 if the government continues to disregard its obligations.
