In a move aimed at promoting technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial training, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a federal polytechnic in Abuja. The institution, named after him – Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic – aligns with the Federal Government’s plan to ensure each state has at least one federal polytechnic.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has requested suitable locations for the temporary and permanent sites of the polytechnic in Gwarinpa.

A Technical Team from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education will visit the sites to review and inspect the recommended locations.

While some praise the move as a significant step towards improving higher education in Nigeria, others criticize it as a case of self-glorification. The development has sparked a heated debate, with many questioning the timing and motivations behind the decision.

The establishment of the federal polytechnic is expected to provide opportunities for technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial training, aligning with the Federal Government’s plans to promote education and skills development. However, the controversy surrounding the naming of the institution after President Tinubu threatens to overshadow the potential benefits of the project.
