Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced a groundbreaking initiative to boost youth employment through the garment industry. Speaking at the reopening ceremony of the Kura Garment Industry in Kura Town, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises, with a focus on job creation and economic development.

The Kura Garment Industry, originally established during Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s administration (2011–2015), has been revitalized to serve as a key driver for employment generation across the state. Governor Yusuf disclosed plans to create 63,360 jobs annually for youths in all 44 local government areas of Kano State. Beneficiaries of the program are expected to earn an average monthly income of ₦70,000, providing a significant boost to household incomes and the local economy.

“This reopening marks a historic step in our mission to tackle unemployment and empower our youths. We are committed to ensuring this industry operates at full capacity to benefit thousands of families across the state,” Governor Yusuf stated.

He also issued a stern warning against the theft of industrial machines deployed to garment clusters in various local government areas. Governor Yusuf emphasized that such unpatriotic actions would not be tolerated and assured the public of strict measures to protect the state’s investments.

This initiative is expected to position Kano State as a hub for garment production, contributing significantly to Nigeria’s economy and promoting skill acquisition among its youth.

Key Highlights:

  • Job Creation: Over 63,000 jobs targeted annually in the garment industry.
  • Economic Empowerment: Beneficiaries to earn an average of ₦70,000 monthly.
  • Revival of Infrastructure: Reopening of the garment industry initially established under Senator Kwankwaso’s administration.
  • Security Measures: Strong warnings issued against sabotage or theft of industrial equipment.

The Kano State Government’s bold move is anticipated to catalyze socio-economic transformation, fostering industrial growth and reducing unemployment in the state.
