A meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) in Abuja descended into chaos as a physical altercation broke out among party members. The gathering, intended to mend internal divisions and foster unity, was overshadowed by tensions, particularly regarding the rift between former Governor Nyesom Wike and other party leaders.

Failed Reconciliation Efforts? The PDP’s BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, had previously outlined plans to reconcile with Wike in the new year, aiming to strengthen the party ahead of future elections. However, the latest developments suggest that internal strife remains a major hurdle.

What Sparked the Clash? While the exact trigger of the altercation remains unclear, sources suggest that deep-seated grievances and unresolved power struggles within the party played a role. The incident underscores the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP, raising concerns about its ability to present a united front in upcoming political battles.

What This Means for the PDP?As the party grapples with internal discord, political analysts warn that prolonged infighting could weaken the PDP’s influence and electoral prospects.

With the 2027 elections on the horizon, party stakeholders may need to intensify reconciliation efforts to prevent further disintegration.
