In a strategic move to strengthen governance and drive developmental progress, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has appointed Umar Farouk Ibrahim as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
The appointment, which takes effect from Monday, February 10, 2025, was confirmed in an official statement released to Public Eye News on Saturday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
A Leader with Decades of Experience Umar Farouk Ibrahim is a seasoned administrator with over 30 years of public service experience. His impressive career spans 1987 to 2023, during which he held several high-ranking positions that played a pivotal role in shaping Kano’s governance structure.
From March 2001 to May 2015, Ibrahim served as the Permanent Secretary for Research, Evaluation, and Political Affairs in the Office of the SSG. In this role, he provided strategic insights, advised on key policy decisions, and ensured the seamless implementation of government policies across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Between June 2015 and March 2016, he was the Permanent Secretary for the Administration and General Services Directorate, demonstrating exceptional leadership and administrative expertise. Notably, he acted as the SSG during annual leaves in 2013 and 2014, reflecting the trust and confidence reposed in him by state leadership.
A Trusted Policy Strategist: Beyond his formal roles, Ibrahim has served on numerous high-profile state committees, including: Coordinating Committee on Independent Power (2012-2015), Committee on the Identification and Sale of Government Property (2012), State Payroll Standing Committee (2000-2004), Inter-Community/Religious Consultative Forum (1998), Committee on the Review of the Operations of the Agency for Mass Education (1994).
His expertise extends to public policy evaluation, governance reforms, and administrative restructuring, making him a key asset to the Yusuf administration.
An Academic and Professional Powerhouse: Ibrahim holds a B.Sc. in Political Science from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University (1985) and has further enhanced his credentials through various professional certifications. His deep understanding of governance, policy analysis, and public administration will be instrumental in advancing the state’s development agenda.
