Jigawa’s Masaki Nutrition Initiative Gains National Recognition at Nutrition 774 Event

The Chairman of Gwaram Local Government, and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Jigawa State, Hon. Salim Abdulrahman Lawan delivered a compelling speech at the Nutrition 774 Programme held in Abuja.

Representing the National ALGON President, Engr. Bello Lawan, the Jigawa ALGON Chairman highlighted the remarkable success of the Masaki Nutrition Programme, positioning it as a model for other states to adopt.
Jigawa State’s ground breaking Masaki Nutrition Programme has received national acclaim for its pivotal role in combating malnutrition and improving child health. During the event, the UNICEF Country Coordinator on Nutrition commended the state’s unwavering commitment to nutrition, recognizing the leadership and dedication of His Excellency Malam Umar Namadi FCA, Governor of Jigawa State.
A Model for Community-Based Nutrition Interventions: The Masaki Nutrition Programme has been a game-changer in addressing malnutrition across Jigawa. With 300 fully funded community nutrition sites and a well-trained workforce of community health professionals, the initiative has made a tangible impact in reducing child malnutrition rates.
Jigawa stands as the first state in Nigeria to successfully implement a statewide community-based nutrition program, setting a precedent for sustainable health interventions.Through a proactive and data-driven approach, the program focuses on early intervention, education, and accessibility, ensuring that vulnerable children receive the necessary nutritional support.
