The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a warning to the public about fraudulent activities on TikTok. On Thursday, February 27, 2025, some scammers organized a live session on the platform, using the EFCC’s logo to deceive and defraud unsuspecting individuals.

The fraudsters created six fake TikTok accounts, bearing the EFCC’s logo and names of non-existent directorates. The fake accounts included “EFCC of Nigeria”, “EFCC Lagos”, “EFCC Delta”, “EFCC of Benin”, “EFCC of Jos”, and “EFCC Saga”.

The EFCC has clarified that it does not have an official TikTok account and has advised the public to disregard any accounts bearing its insignia. The commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, emphasized the importance of being cautious when interacting with online accounts claiming to represent the EFCC.

How to Identify Fake EFCC Accounts

To avoid falling victim to these scams, the public is advised to be vigilant when interacting with online accounts claiming to represent the EFCC. Here are some tips to help you identify fake EFCC accounts:

  • Verify the account’s authenticity: Check if the account is verified by TikTok or has a legitimate link to the EFCC’s official website.
  • Be cautious of unsolicited messages: Be wary of messages or comments from accounts claiming to represent the EFCC, especially if they ask for personal or financial information.
  • Report suspicious accounts: If you suspect an account is fake, report it to TikTok’s support team and the EFCC’s official channels.

By being aware of these scams and taking necessary precautions, you can help protect yourself and others from falling victim to these fraudulent activities.
