The quest for the creation of Hadejia State has taken a significant step forward, as a delegation from the Hadejia Ina Mafita Initiative, led by Chairman Alhaji Baidi Gajo Elleman Elleman, visited the House of Representatives to submit a letter requesting the creation of a new state.

The delegation, which included local government leaders, the Chairman of the Committee for the creation of Hadejia State, Alhaji Musa Shuaibu, and a representative of the Emir of Hadejia, was warmly received by the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Abbas Tajudden, Ph.D.

Honorable Makki Abubakar Yalleman, who facilitated the meeting, demonstrated his expertise and experience by ensuring the delegation’s letter was presented directly to the Speaker, rather than the Clerk of the House.

The movement for the creation of Hadejia State is not new, dating back to 1975 when the community first submitted a request to the then-military head of state. Despite facing setbacks and challenges over the years, the community remains determined to achieve its goal.

The proposed state would comprise eight local government areas, three federal constituencies, and nine state assembly constituencies, with a population of over 1.8 million people, according to the 2006 census.

Proponents of the movement argue that the creation of Hadejia State would bring about economic development, improved infrastructure, and better representation for the people of the region.

As the movement gains momentum, it remains to be seen whether the National Assembly will grant the community’s request. However, with the support of capable representatives like Honorable Makki Abubakar Yalleman, the people of Hadejia remain hopeful that their dream of statehood will soon become a reality.
