Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has expressed optimism that the Northwest region of Nigeria has the necessary human capital and material resources to overcome its economic challenges and reach its full potential.

Governor Namadi made this declaration during a courtesy visit from the Board and Management of the Northwest Development Commission at the Government House in Dutse. He commended the leadership of the newly established commission and pledged the support of Jigawa State and the Northwest Governors’ Forum in ensuring its success.

Key Areas of Focus

The governor emphasized the importance of collaboration between the commission and state governments to drive meaningful development in the region. He advised the commission to focus on sustainable infrastructure, education, security, and economic growth, rather than short-term relief programs.

Governor Namadi also stressed the need for transparency, accountability, and integrity in the commission’s operations, assuring them of his administration’s full support.

Challenges Facing the Northwest Region

Chairman of the Board of the Northwest Development Commission, Lawal Sama’ila Abdullahi, acknowledged the critical role of the governors in the establishment of the commission. He noted that Jigawa State’s strong agricultural potential makes it a key partner in the commission’s efforts to boost agro-allied industries and infrastructure development across the region.

Abdullahi identified key challenges facing the Northwest region, including security concerns, out-of-school children, drug addiction, and economic empowerment. He called for Governor Namadi’s guidance and leadership in rallying support from other governors to ensure the commission’s success.
