In a surprise move, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has invited the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and other lawmakers for a meeting aimed at charting a new way forward for the oil-rich state. The meeting, scheduled to hold at the Governor’s Office in the Government House, Port Harcourt on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 10 am, is seen as a significant step towards resolving the lingering crisis between the executive and legislative arms of government in the state.

According to a letter dated March 7, 2025, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, the meeting will focus on several key issues, including:
- Provision of a befitting place for assembly sittings
- Payment of all outstanding remuneration or allowances of the Honourable members
- Presentation of budget and sundry matters
- Other matters aimed at charting a new way forward for the state
The invitation is believed to be a direct response to the Supreme Court judgment, which has been a subject of controversy in the state. Governor Fubara’s move is seen as an attempt to reconcile with the lawmakers and find a lasting solution to the crisis.
Sources close to the government have confirmed that the meeting is a genuine attempt to resolve the differences between the executive and legislative arms of government. However, it remains to be seen how the lawmakers will respond to the invitation.
