In a shocking revelation, Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has hinted that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, might join the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 2027. Bashir made this assertion on X (formerly Twitter), responding to a user who argued that the SDP needs Obi to defeat the APC in the 2027 elections.

Bashir’s comment, “He is coming,” has sparked intense speculation about Obi’s potential move to the SDP. This development comes on the heels of Nasir El-Rufai’s high-profile exit from the APC, which has been making waves in Nigerian politics.

Nasir El-Rufai, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has been a vocal critic of the APC-led government. His defection from the party has been seen as a significant blow to the APC’s stronghold in the North.

As the 2027 general elections approach, the SDP is positioning itself as a viable alternative to the APC and PDP. With Bashir’s hint about Obi’s potential move, the SDP may be poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming elections.

Only time will tell if Peter Obi will indeed join the SDP, but one thing is certain – the Nigerian political landscape is about to get a lot more interesting.
