Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has taken a significant step towards strengthening the state’s partnership with the World Bank. In a strategic meeting with the bank’s new leadership in Nigeria, Yusuf sought additional development interventions to drive Kano’s growth and development.
The meeting, attended by World Bank Country Director Dr. Ndiamé Diop and other senior officials, focused on key areas such as health, education, climate change, governance, and human capital development. Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and effective resource utilization to ensure maximum impact from World Bank-supported programs.
Dr. Diop acknowledged Kano’s strategic importance in implementing the bank’s initiatives and emphasized the state’s numerous opportunities for sustainable economic and social development. This visit underscores Governor Yusuf’s efforts to attract international partnerships and investments to drive Kano’s long-term growth.

The state government has been actively engaging with international organizations to address various challenges. For instance, the Kano State Government has partnered with the World Bank and the Federal Government to tackle gully erosion in Bulbula-Gayawa, Ungoggo Local Government Area.
Additionally, Governor Yusuf has appealed for an extension of World Bank intervention projects in the state, citing their positive impact on socio-economic development. These efforts demonstrate the governor’s commitment to driving development and improving the lives of Kano’s citizens.
