In a shocking revelation, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has disclosed that his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) had the full backing of former President Muhammadu Buhari. This bombshell was dropped during an interview with BBC Hausa, where El-Rufai shared details of his decision to leave the APC.

According to El-Rufai, he had visited Buhari on a Friday to inform him of his intention to defect to the SDP. El-Rufai described Buhari as his go-to person for consultation, seeking his input on matters ranging from selecting commissioner-nominees during his tenure as governor. “I have those I consult with in everything I do. I inform them of anything I intend to do, and when they demand that I keep off, I do. My first godfather is Muhammadu Buhari,” E

El-Rufai cited the APC’s current leadership’s lack of willingness to address internal issues as a key reason for his departure. He expressed surprise at some developments within the party but did not regret supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he backed due to the zoning arrangement that favored a Southern candidate.

This revelation sheds light on the intricate dynamics at play within Nigeria’s political landscape, highlighting the complex relationships between key players. As the story continues to unfold, one thing is clear: El-Rufai’s defection to the SDP has sent shockwaves throughout the political establishment.
