In a display of alumni pride, Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, recently hosted the Governing Council of his alma mater, the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT). The council, led by Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, gathered at Wike’s residence, marking a significant moment for the institution.

Wike expressed his pride in being associated with UNIPORT, emphasizing his commitment to supporting the university. He believes it is his duty to give back to the institution that has shaped his life. This gesture underscores Wike’s dedication to education and his alma mater.

As a distinguished alumnus, Wike’s hosting of the Governing Council highlights the importance of university alumni networks and the role they play in supporting institutional growth and development. The University of Port Harcourt, established in 1975, has a strong reputation for academic excellence, with a 90% post-graduation success rate and ranking among the top 10 universities in Nigeria.

The meeting between Wike and the UNIPORT Governing Council is expected to foster stronger ties between the institution and its alumni, potentially leading to new opportunities for collaboration and development.
