In a shocking move, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land allocated to the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) national secretariat in Abuja. The revocation notice, dated March 13, 2025, cited the PDP’s failure to pay annual ground rents for 20 years, from January 2006 to January 2025.

According to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), the PDP’s actions contravene the Land Use Act, specifically Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b). Despite numerous publications and reminders, the party failed to settle its outstanding bills and ground rents.

The FCTA has taken possession of the property, located on Plot 243 in the Central Area of Abuja. This move is seen as a warning to other property owners in the FCT who may be defaulting on their payment obligations.

Background of the Revocation

The revocation notice was signed by Chijioke Nwankwoeze, Director of Land Administration (FCT), and stated that the PDP’s failure to pay ground rents for 20 years was a blatant violation of the Land Use Act.

Implications of the Revocation

The revocation of the PDP’s land allocation is a significant development in the ongoing efforts to recover unpaid ground rents in the FCT. The move is expected to send a strong message to other property owners who may be defaulting on their payment obligations.
