Breaking: INEC Make U-turn on Senator Natasha’s Recall Process
By Usman A Harande
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed receipt of the necessary contact information from the representatives of the petitioners seeking the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, INEC National Commissioner Sam Olumekun announced that the petitioners have provided their contact address, telephone numbers, and email addresses, as required by the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Recall 2024.

As part of the recall process, INEC has notified Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of the petition and delivered the letter to her official address. The same letter has been copied to the presiding officer of the Senate and published on the Commission’s website.
Next Steps:
- INEC will scrutinize the list of signatories submitted by the petitioners to verify that the petition has been signed by more than 50% of the registered voters in the constituency.
- The outcome of the verification process will determine the next step to be taken by the Commission.
- The process will be open and transparent, with the outcome made public in the coming days.
The recall petition was submitted by a group of registered voters from Kogi Central Senatorial District, who cited loss of confidence in Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan due to her suspension from the Senate. The petitioners claim to have collected signatures from over 250,000 registered voters, exceeding the required threshold of 50%.
