Governor Zulum Demands Swift Justice for Minor Molested in Viral Video, Offers Aid to Victim
By Yusuf Maiduguri
Maiduguri, Borno State – Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has taken decisive action following the circulation of a deeply disturbing video depicting the alleged molestation of a minor, Bashir Gaji. He has ordered the immediate prosecution of the accused, Bukar Modu, who was apprehended by security forces late Saturday night in Maiduguri’s Umarari area.

The video, which triggered widespread public outrage, underscored the urgent need to address child protection and ensure perpetrators of such heinous crimes face the full force of the law. Governor Zulum, visibly moved by the incident, met with young Bashir Gaji at the Government House on Sunday, reaffirming his administration’s zero-tolerance stance against any form of child abuse or exploitation.

“This abhorrent act is a direct assault on our core values and a gross breach of our responsibility to safeguard our children, students, and minors,” Governor Zulum stated firmly. “We cannot allow such atrocities to persist. I have directed the relevant authorities to expedite the legal process and ensure the accused is brought to justice. Our children deserve a secure environment to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.”

Recognizing the broader implications of the incident, Governor Zulum also instructed the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to implement comprehensive community awareness programs. These initiatives aim to educate families, local traditional teachers, and guardians on fostering positive disciplinary practices for children.
Compassionate Support for Victim’s Family
In a gesture of compassion, Governor Zulum extended significant support to Bashir Gaji and his family. He announced the provision of a fully furnished house and a scholarship to cover Bashir’s education. The family, currently residing in an IDP camp in Monguno, suffered the tragic loss of Bashir’s father, who was killed by Boko Haram insurgents.
This dual approach, combining swift legal action with tangible support for the victim, highlights Governor Zulum’s commitment to both justice and the well-being of vulnerable children in Borno State. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges in protecting children amidst the region’s complex security and humanitarian landscape.
