Kano State Govt Boosts Grassroots Communication with Capacity-Building Workshop -

In a bid to enhance effective governance and information dissemination at the grassroots level, the Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, has launched a two-day capacity-building workshop for Local Government Information Officers. The workshop, themed “Enhancing Communication Skills and Stakeholders’ Synergy for Effective Grassroots Information Flow,” aims to bridge the gap between policy and public perception.

Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, emphasized the critical role of communication in governance, stressing that effective government-to-people communication must be clear, accessible, collaborative, and consistent. “In today’s dynamic information environment, the role of Information Officers cannot be overemphasized. They are the bridge between policy and the public and between government intentions and public perception,” he stated.

The workshop is designed to equip Information Officers with practical strategies to strengthen communication across all local government areas in Kano State. Commissioner Waiya urged participants to take full advantage of the sessions to improve their professional skills and contribute to a more informed, engaged, and connected grassroots population.

The workshop featured paper presentations from renowned experts, including Alhaji Ahmed Aminu, former Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs; Dr. Hassan Ya’u of the Mass Communication Department; and Malam Auwalu Sa’id Mu’azu, Editor and Media Communication Consultant. Topics discussed included enhancing grassroots engagement and mobilization, updating media English skills, and essentials of news writing and press releases.

By investing in the capacity-building of Local Government Information Officers, the Kano State Government is taking a significant step towards ensuring effective communication and good governance at the grassroots level. This initiative is expected to promote transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement, ultimately contributing to the state’s development.
