Kano State Correspondent Chapel Gets New Leadership

The Kano State Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has elected new executives to lead the chapter. The election, which took place recently, saw Adewale Murtala of The Guardian Newspaper emerge as the new Chairman, securing 17 votes to defeat his closest rival, Soron Dinki of This Day Newspaper, who garnered 12 votes.

The New Executive Members: Chairman: Adewale Murtala (The Guardian Newspaper), Vice Chairman: Bala Yusuf (Voice of Nigeria), Secretary: Salim Umar (Daily Trust), Treasurer: Bashir Bello (Vanguard), Financial Secretary: Ramatu Garba (News Agency of Nigeria), Auditor: Longtong Yakubu (Leadership Newspaper), Assistant Secretary: Salihu Aliyu (Voice of Nigeria).

In his acceptance speech, Adewale Murtala pledged to prioritize members’ welfare and capacity development, aiming to take the chapel to greater heights. He emphasized the importance of inclusivity and carrying all members along.

The NUJ Chairman, Suleiman Dederi, represented by his Vice, Mustapha Gambo, congratulated the elected members and urged them to be accountable and ensure the chapter’s continued vibrancy.

The newly elected executives face the challenge of promoting the interests of journalists in Kano State while upholding the principles of professionalism and ethics in journalism. With their combined experience and expertise, they are expected to drive the chapel’s growth and development.
