In a landmark move to enhance electricity infrastructure across Kano State, Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has flagged off the distribution of 500 electricity transformers to all 44 Local Government Areas. This initiative marks a significant milestone in the administration’s commitment to providing reliable and stable electricity to rural communities.

The distribution ceremony, held at the Rural Electricity Board (REB) on Maganda Road, saw the Governor express pride in fulfilling his campaign promises. “Access to reliable and stable electricity is not just a basic need; it is a powerful catalyst for economic growth, industrial development, improved healthcare, quality education, and overall social well-being of our people,” he emphasized.

The transformers, procured from reputable companies outside Nigeria, include 500, 300, and 200 KVA units, tailored to meet the specific needs of each community. Governor Yusuf appealed to residents to protect and safeguard the transformers to ensure their sustainability and contribute to societal progress.

This project is a collaborative effort between the state government and the 44 Local Government Councils, with the state-owned Electricity Company beginning to evacuate power from the 10-megawatt Tiga Hydro-Power Generation Plant. The Governor expressed confidence that this project would significantly boost energy supply and the state’s economy.

Stakeholders, including the State Commissioner of Rural and Community Development, Alhaji AbdulKadir Abdulsalam, and the Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Muhammad Muhammad Maharaz, praised the initiative as a “milestone achievement” and a “giant stride” towards community development and enhancing peaceful coexistence.
