In a bid to ensure the integrity of the electoral process, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has deployed its operatives to monitor the ongoing Local Government Elections in Lagos State. The commission’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 and 2 joined forces with other law enforcement agencies to curb vote buying and enforce strict compliance with electoral laws.

Led by Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, CE Michael Nzekwe, and acting Director, Lagos Directorate 2, ACE I Ahmed Ghali, EFCC operatives were stationed at various polling units across the state. Their presence was aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and institutional vigilance in Nigeria’s electoral processes.
According to eyewitnesses, the election exercise was largely peaceful, with voters praising the EFCC’s proactive intervention. “The EFCC’s presence has given us confidence in the electoral process,” said Mrs. Adeola, a voter from Alimosho Local Government Area. “We hope this will translate to better leadership and governance in our local governments.”

The EFCC’s collaborative efforts with other security agencies have been acknowledged, with many noting the commission’s critical role in maintaining order and deterring electoral malpractices. “The EFCC’s involvement has been a game-changer,” said a security official who preferred anonymity. “Their presence has helped to minimize vote buying and other forms of electoral malfeasance.”
