The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that Governor Umar Namadi spent N1.8 billion to acquire luxury vehicles for his personal use.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Dutse, the State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr. Bashir Kundu, described the report as false and politically motivated, accusing its authors of attempting to tarnish the governor’s reputation and distract the public from ongoing development efforts.

“Ordinarily, we would not dignify such baseless claims with a response, but we feel compelled to set the record straight and correct the misinformation being spread by politically biased elements,” the statement read.

The controversy stemmed from a report by Sahara Reporters alleging that Governor Namadi had awarded a contract for the purchase of 12 luxury SUVs and had taken delivery of new vehicles to be used in his official convoy. The report also claimed that the state generated only N6.9 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the first half of 2025.

However, the APC refuted the figures, insisting that the state generated over N23.8 billion in IGR from January to June 2025. The party also clarified that the vehicles spotted at the Government House premises were those of visiting dignitaries, not new acquisitions for the governor’s use.

“The Governor is still using vehicles inherited from his predecessor,” the party stated. “It is within his legal right to purchase new convoy vehicles, but Governor Namadi has chosen not to prioritize that.”

Mr. Kundu further emphasized that the state’s procurement laws strictly regulate contract awards, adding that as a finance expert, Governor Namadi would never breach such protocols.

“In the last two years, Governor Namadi has focused on human capital development, particularly in education and infrastructure. He has demonstrated integrity and discipline both in private life and public office,” Kundu added.

According to the APC, the Namadi-led administration has completed all 26 road projects it inherited and has initiated 48 additional road projects covering 976 kilometres, with 30 already nearing completion. Among the completed projects is the Jigawa–Sundimina–Birnin Kudu Road, valued at N11.5 billion and delivered within seven months—five months ahead of schedule.

Other major ongoing infrastructure projects include:

  • The 47km Sara–Gantsa Road (N11 billion),
  • 15 feeder road projects at 70–80% completion,
  • Township roads in Bulangu and Gandun Sarki,
  • Dutse capital road networks currently at 60–70% completion.

The party also noted that the administration inherited N82 billion in liabilities from the previous government, of which N50 billion has been cleared so far.

“The governor is committed to responsible governance and delivering developmental projects. Allegations of luxury spending are baseless and only serve to mislead the public,” the statement concluded.
