The Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, Alhaji Ibrahim Ali Namadi, has tendered his resignation amid a growing controversy surrounding his alleged involvement in the bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu.

His resignation comes shortly after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received the report of an investigative committee tasked with examining the matter.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the former commissioner said his decision was made in the overriding public interest, citing the sensitive nature of the issue and the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

“While I maintain my innocence, I cannot ignore the weight of public perception and the need to protect the values we have collectively built,” Namadi stated. He added that his role in an administration known for its firm stance against illicit drugs made it necessary to step aside, describing the move as a “painful but necessary decision.”

Alhaji Namadi expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for the opportunity to serve, pledging continued support for the administration’s vision and reaffirming his loyalty to the ideals that brought them into office.

Governor Yusuf, in accepting the resignation, wished the former commissioner well in his future endeavors and reaffirmed his administration’s zero tolerance for drug-related crimes and social vices.

The governor also emphasized the need for all political appointees to exercise caution and seek higher approval before involving themselves in matters of public interest.

The incident has sparked considerable public interest, given the state government’s ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse and maintain integrity in governance.
