Kano, August 7, 2025 – The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic death of Sadiq Gentle, a Senior Special Reporter attached to the State Ministry of History and Culture, who died from injuries sustained in a recent attack by suspected hoodlums.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor described the late journalist as “a dedicated and patriotic social media professional” whose untimely death has sent shockwaves across the state government and the wider media community.

“The news of the death of Malam Sadiq Gentle hit me with deep sadness and anguish,” Governor Yusuf said. “He was not only a devoted public servant but also a man of peace and integrity who served the state with utmost dedication. His gruesome murder is a tragedy and an affront to our collective humanity.”

Condemning the killing in the strongest terms, the Governor labelled the act as “heinous, barbaric, and utterly unacceptable.” He extended his heartfelt condolences to Gentle’s family, friends, and professional colleagues, pledging the state government’s full solidarity during this difficult time.

Governor Yusuf also directed security agencies to immediately investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible for the murder are brought to justice.

The late Sadiq Gentle was known for his active role in digital media and public communication, contributing significantly to the state’s historical and cultural promotion through social platforms. His death marks a grim reminder of the growing threats faced by media professionals across Nigeria.
