In a renewed push to strengthen healthcare delivery across Jigawa State, the Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Taskforce on Primary Health Care (PHC), Engr. Aminu Usman Gumel, on Tuesday supervised three Primary Health Centres in Auyo Local Government Area.

The inspection tour, which forms part of the government’s statewide monitoring exercise, covered Ayama PHC, Gamafoi PHC, and Auyo Model PHC, where the deputy governor and his team assessed infrastructure, staff capacity, availability of drugs, and general service delivery.
Engr. Gumel was accompanied by key officials including the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (JSPHCDA), Dr. Shehu Sambo; the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor; the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor; the Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Pharm. Muhammad Shehu Ahmad; the Director of Planning, Research, Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Alhaji Yusuf Bashir Hakimi; as well as other senior administrators from JSPHCDA and the Office of the Deputy Governor.

The delegation was warmly received by the Executive Chairman of Auyo Local Government, Hon. Binyaminu Adam Kafur; the representative of the Emir of Hadejia on healthcare matters, Alhaji Tijjani Usman (Sarkin Dawaki Mai Tuta); alongside traditional rulers, community leaders, and political stakeholders.

Speaking after the inspection, the deputy governor emphasized that the exercise was not just ceremonial but aimed at obtaining first-hand information on the realities confronting PHCs at the grassroots. According to him, the state government under Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, is committed to accountability, transparency, and improved access to healthcare services.

“We are determined to ensure that every Primary Health Centre in Jigawa is functional, well-staffed, and adequately equipped to serve our people. This supervision allows us to directly identify challenges and recommend immediate interventions,” Engr. Gumel stated.
Dr. Sambo, on his part, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sustaining routine supervision of PHCs across all 27 LGAs, stressing that monitoring remains key to ensuring efficient service delivery.
The exercise in Auyo LGA follows similar visits to other parts of the state and reflects the administration’s broader strategy of strengthening the primary healthcare system as the foundation of universal health coverage in Jigawa.
With the state government’s continuous engagement with traditional leaders, local authorities, and community stakeholders, officials believe the initiative will foster stronger accountability and better health outcomes for citizens.
