As Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 general elections, Yiaga Africa has begun early preparations with a renewed strategy aimed at promoting credible, transparent, and inclusive polls.

Last week, the civic organization convened a 2027 Elections Scenarios Workshop in Abuja, bringing together leading experts on democracy, governance, and electoral processes. The session focused on analyzing key political, social, economic, technological, security, and institutional factors expected to influence the conduct and outcomes of the forthcoming elections.

According to Yiaga Africa, the initiative seeks to develop plausible scenarios that identify both risks and opportunities within the electoral landscape, while helping stakeholders — including civil society organizations, electoral institutions, and development partners — anticipate challenges and design proactive responses.

In addition to the scenario-building exercise, Yiaga Africa unveiled an upgraded version of its Election Manipulation Risk Index (EMRI 2.0) — a data-driven, evidence-based tool first used during the 2023 general elections to provide early warning signals on potential manipulation risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

The workshop also served as a platform to review and refine the methodology, variables, and indicators used in monitoring and analyzing electoral vulnerabilities across the country.

Yiaga Africa expressed appreciation to the Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS for their continued support towards advancing electoral integrity and democratic governance in Nigeria.

Further details on the 2027 election preparedness initiatives will be release.
