In a demonstration of appreciation for decades of selfless service, the Borno State Government has officially presented a two-bedroom housing unit and a university job appointment to Mrs. Mabel Ijeoma Duaka, a health worker from Anambra State, and her son, Mr. Abraham Stephen.

The presentation was made on Friday by the Borno State Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, during a brief ceremony held at the Ministry’s conference hall in Musa Usman Secretariat, Maiduguri.

The gesture follows a directive from Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, who earlier this week ordered that the institutional housing allocation previously given to Mrs. Duaka be converted to a personal one, in recognition of her over 20 years of service at the Primary Healthcare Centre in Mafa Local Government Area.

“On October 7, 2025, during the commissioning of Teachers’ Quarters in Mafa, His Excellency, Governor Zulum, directed that one of the two-bedroom housing units be personally allocated to Mrs. Mabel Ijeoma Duaka,” Engr. Wakilbe stated.

“In line with that directive, I am honoured to formally present the allocation letter for House No. 003, Phase 1, Teachers’ Quarters, Mafa to Madam Duaka. Furthermore, her son, Mr. Abraham Stephen, who holds a Second Class Upper degree in Banking and Finance, has been offered automatic employment as a Graduate Assistant at Kashim Ibrahim University,” he added.

The Commissioner noted that the employment is part of the Governor’s wider commitment to rewarding dedication, regardless of ethnic or regional background.

Reacting to the development, an emotional Mrs. Duaka expressed deep gratitude to Governor Zulum for what she described as a life-changing gesture.

“I want to sincerely thank Governor Zulum for his generosity. My son has been unemployed for four years since graduation, and now he has been given an opportunity. I promise that he will not disappoint,” she said.

Also present at the ceremony were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, the Registrar of Kashim Ibrahim University, and senior officials from both the Ministry and the University.

Governor Zulum’s administration continues to earn praise for its inclusive and merit-based approach to governance, with this latest act reinforcing the state’s recognition of hard work and dedication across all sectors.
