Borno State Restores WAEC & NECO Exam Centres in Askira-Uba, Sets Record Straight
By Innocent Adamu
In a significant development, the Borno State Government has successfully restored the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO) examination centers in Askira-Uba Local Government Area. This move comes as a relief to students and parents who had been facing numerous challenges due to the absence of these centers in the area.

The restoration of the examination centers is a testament to the commitment of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s administration to improving access to education in the state. Following the restoration of peace and security in the area, the government decided to decentralize the examination centers to their original locations, reducing the suffering of students and parents.

A committee chaired by Hon. Abubakar Tijjani, Special Adviser on Education to the Governor, was set up to work out the modalities for the restoration. The committee engaged with relevant stakeholders, including WAEC and NECO officials, security agencies, and school principals, to ensure a smooth transition.
The Askira-Uba Local Government Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Mazhinyi, pledged to provide logistics support, accommodations, and security for the examination centers, demonstrating the local government’s commitment to supporting the initiative.
The Borno State Government has clarified that the restoration of the examination centers was a result of its efforts, led by Governor Zulum, through the Ministerial Committee chaired by Hon. Abubakar Tijjani. The government has warned against any attempts to claim credit for this achievement, emphasizing that it is a testament to its commitment to improving education in the state.
