Kano, Nigeria — A devastating fire outbreak on Saturday evening razed several shops at the popular Singer Market, throwing traders and business owners into distress and triggering an immediate emergency response.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf personally stormed the scene of the inferno, supervising response efforts and participating actively in coordinating fire control operations alongside emergency agencies. His presence at the site drew commendation from traders and residents, as he assessed the level of destruction and directed relevant authorities to intensify containment measures.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire spread rapidly across sections of the market, destroying goods and properties worth millions of naira. Many affected traders were seen salvaging remnants of their wares, while others stood in shock as flames consumed years of investment and hard work.

In a show of solidarity, members of the business community expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing markets as more than trading hubs but symbols of sacrifice, resilience, and economic survival for thousands of families.

“Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un. This is a painful moment for our brothers and sisters whose livelihoods have been affected. Markets represent years of commitment and hope. The losses being recorded are heartbreaking,” a business leader told Public Eye News at the scene.

Emergency responders, including the state fire service, security agencies, and volunteers, worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjoining structures. Authorities are yet to confirm the exact cause of the fire as investigations commence.

Stakeholders have called for swift government intervention, emergency relief support, and collaborative assistance from the private sector and well-meaning individuals to enable victims to recover and rebuild.

Despite the scale of destruction, traders maintained hope, expressing confidence that with unity, resilience, and collective support, the business community in Kano will rise again stronger.

Further updates will follow as details emerge on casualties, estimated losses, and government relief measures.
