In a shocking turn of events, the Kano State Police Command has confirmed the death of a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and another individual following a violent incident in Rano Local Government Area on May 25, 2025.

According to eyewitnesses, the trouble began when a motorcycle mechanic, Abdullahi Musa, was arrested and detained for reckless riding. However, things took a deadly turn when Musa died while in police custody, allegedly due to complications from substance abuse. The news of his death sparked widespread outrage, with miscreants mobilizing to attack the Rano Police Division.

The situation escalated rapidly, with reports of looting, arson, and violence. Parts of the police station were set ablaze, and several vehicles were destroyed or damaged. The DPO, whose identity has not been disclosed, was seriously injured during the mayhem and later succumbed to his injuries at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

The Kano State Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident, with 27 suspects already arrested in connection with the violence. Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, PhD, has assured the public of a transparent probe to identify those responsible for the mayhem.

“We commiserate with the family of the deceased DPO and appeal to residents to remain calm and allow the investigation to progress uninterrupted,” the police command stated. “We assure the public of our commitment to maintaining peace and public order in the state.”

The police command has confirmed that the situation has been brought under control, with normalcy restored in the affected area. Security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The incident has raised concerns about the use of substances and its impact on public safety. The police command’s investigation will likely examine the circumstances surrounding Abdullahi Musa’s death and the role of substance abuse in the incident.

The Emir of Rano, His Highness Ambassador Dr. Mohammed Isah Umar, has received a condolence visit from CP Ibrahim Bakori, PhD, highlighting the gravity of the situation and the need for calm.

As more information becomes available, Public Eye News will provide further updates on this developing story. In the meantime, residents are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to ensure peace and stability in the area.
