Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tambuwal conveyed his decision in a resignation letter dated March 11, 2026, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Tambuwal/Shinfiri Ward of Tambuwal Local Government Area in Sokoto State.
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria said the move followed extensive consultations and careful reflection with his political associates and supporters.
According to him, the persistent internal crises, leadership disputes, and deepening divisions within the PDP made it increasingly difficult for him to remain in the party.
Tambuwal noted that the prolonged conflicts within the party have significantly weakened the unity, stability, and direction that once defined the PDP as a strong political platform.
Despite his departure, the senator expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunity it gave him to serve Nigeria in various leadership roles, including as Speaker of the House of Representatives and as Governor of Sokoto State.
He confirmed that he has now formally aligned with the African Democratic Congress alongside his political allies and supporters.
Tambuwal said his decision was driven by the belief that Nigeria needs a stronger political platform anchored on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and commitment to national development.
He also reaffirmed his dedication to the service of Nigeria and the advancement of democracy, justice, and national unity.
