A devastating attack on the Chadian presidential palace in N’Djamena has left 19 people dead, including 18 assailants and one security personnel member. The fierce gun battle erupted on Wednesday evening, with eyewitnesses reporting gunfire and tanks deployed near the presidential complex.
According to government spokesperson and Foreign Minister Abderaman Koulamallah, the situation is now under control, and the destabilization attempt has been thwarted. The attack is believed to have been carried out by a group of 24 armed men, reportedly affiliated with the jihadist group Boko Haram.
The incident has raised concerns about the security situation in Chad, which has been plagued by attacks from Boko Haram in the Lake Chad region. The country has been under military rule since 2021, and the recent attack has sparked fears of further instability.
But the government has stated that the situation is under control, and the destabilization attempt has been thwarted.
