Budinga Town, Jigawa State, Nigeria – A devastating cholera outbreak has struck Budinga town in Gwaram local government area of Jigawa state, claiming the lives of four people and infecting over 100 others. The outbreak, which began earlier this week, continues to spread rapidly, with 20 people receiving treatment at the local hospital and 80 others being treated at home.

Residents of Budinga have expressed frustration over the lack of support from local and state authorities. Despite the dire situation, they claim to have received no assistance in terms of medical care, clean water, or sanitation facilities. “We are facing a serious crisis here, and it’s disappointing that those in power are not doing enough to help us,” said a local resident who wished to remain anonymous.

Cholera, a highly infectious disease transmitted through contaminated food or water, can spread quickly in areas with poor sanitation. The recent flooding in the state may have exacerbated the outbreak by contaminating water sources.

The lack of support from authorities could further worsen the situation, as it may hinder efforts to control the spread of the disease. Experts warn that urgent action is needed to provide medical care, clean water, and sanitation facilities to the affected community.

The Jigawa State Government and relevant health authorities are urged to investigate the outbreak and take immediate steps to contain the spread of cholera. This includes providing adequate medical care, improving sanitation and hygiene, and ensuring access to clean water.
