In a significant step towards enhancing communication between the government and citizens, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to accurate and impactful information dissemination. The Governor made this known through the Kano State Head of Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, at the opening ceremony of a four-day capacity building workshop for Senior Special Reporters (SSRs) and Special Reporters (SRs)

The workshop, themed “Updating Basic Mass Communication Skills for Enhanced Government Communication,” was organized by the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs in collaboration with the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ). Held at Dangote Business School, Bayero University, Kano, the training aims to equip reporters with the necessary skills to deliver credible, people-centered communication.

Championing the cause of credible information flow, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, emphasized that the training aligns with the state’s strategic drive to professionalize public communication. “Our SSRs and SRs are the unsung vanguards of transparency and public enlightenment,” Waiya stated, highlighting their crucial role in projecting government programs responsibly.

Governor Yusuf commended the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs for its visionary leadership and praised the IIJ for their partnership. He urged participants to seize the opportunity to upgrade their storytelling, ethical standards, and technical reporting skills. The Governor’s commitment to human capital development is evident in the state’s significant investment of ₦116,205,800 in seven training programs since January 2025.

The four-day workshop features facilitators from the Faculty of Communication, Bayero University Kano, who will engage participants on various topics, including storytelling, ethical reporting, and technical skills. A total of 132 participants, comprising 71 SSRs and 61 SRs, were carefully selected for the training, underscoring the administration’s focus on building a robust information machinery.
