FLOOD DISASTER: ALHAJI LAMIDO AND DR. IBRAHIM ASSESS DAMAGE, CALL FOR GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION

A high-profile delegation led by Alhaji Mustapha Sule Lamido (Santurakin Dutse) and Dr. Babandi Ibrahim visited flood-affected areas in Jigawa State yesterday to evaluate the extent of the devastation. The entourage, comprising dignitaries including the PDP State Chairman, Hon. Ali Diginsa, and National Assembly members, Hon. Dahiru Madaki and Hon. Salisu Mamuda, among others, toured the worst-hit local government areas of Jahun, Miga, Kiyawa, and Gantsa.

Alhaji Lamido expressed deep concern and sympathy for the victims of the August 1 flood, describing the destruction of homes, food, clothing, farmland, and property as “devastating.” He emphasized the need for immediate government intervention to provide relief and support to affected victims, stressing a thorough assessment of the damage. Additionally, he urged proactive measures to prevent future occurrences, such as repairing the Kogi River channel before opening the dam.

The delegation’s visit aimed to console affected communities, with Alhaji Lamido emphasizing the importance of prayer and resilience in the face of disaster. The visit highlights the urgent need for government action to mitigate the impact of the flood disaster and prevent future tragedies.
